Celebrate South Africa This Weekend

Today, while researching things to write about, I found out that this weekend is a long one. I haven’t even properly registered that it’s September! Where has the year gone?! You can only imagine my excitement as I made an announcement to the office (and of course they all knew already because I’m late to the party). What makes it even better is that it’s Heritage Day. Why not go on a few adventures while you celebrate South Africa and the amazing culture and diversity that it has to offer at the same time? So we’ve rounded up a few things to do this weekend to experience the magic of South Africa.

CELEBRATE SOUTH AFRICA IN CAPE TOWN

Rugby Museum

This is probably one of the best places to celebrate rugby heritage. You can learn more about the Springbok’s history and journey, and you can test your skills with their interactive ‘Springbok Trials’. It’s the ultimate Springbok experience.

Run Cape Town Sightseeing

This is just one of those things that you should do at least once in your life. Explore and experience the magic of Cape Town’s incredible landscape with a running tour. Because they have seven tours ranging from urban to trail runs, there’s something for everyone. Plus you get to work on your Summer body while you’re at it ? And if you’re in Johannesburg or Pretoria, here are a few things you can do to spring clean your body and mind.

Waterfront Adventures

While running is a great way to explore the landscape, a day cruise or sailing trip is a brilliant way to explore the scenery of the sea and harbour at the V&A Waterfront. Because it’s worth treating yourself after a day of sailing, you should definitely taste one of Fire and Ice‘s proudly South African milkshakes when you’re done.

IN JOHANNESBURG & PRETORIA

Fort Klapperkop

Because Pretoria’s history is so rich, I recommend you check out Fort Klapperkop. The house was erected before the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War and is now open to the public as a museum. The grounds are gorgeous too, so grab your bicycle and go on a little adventure, or go for a run and be one with the zebras that inhabit the land.

Microlight Adventures

Because we covered land and sea in Cape Town in our quest to celebrate South Africa, we have to cover air in Johannesburg! A microlight adventure is a perfect way to experience the beauty of Benoni and surrounding areas of Johannesburg from a bird’s eye view.

Kruger Museum

Located in the heart of Pretoria, this house was built in 1884 and belonged to Paul Kruger. It has since been restored and recreates the ambiance of the time in which Kruger lived. Fun fact: It was one of the first houses to be lit by electricity.

AND IN DURBAN

Segway Gliding Tour

This fun and challenging tour on the Segway X2 will take you over thrilling terrain and expose you to the famous Mac Banana Farm. So you get to experience the wonder of South Africa on wheels! And they have a kid’s track for your little adventurers!

Zulumoon Gondolas

Gondolas aren’t just for Venice, you know. They’re also for floating down the Durban Point Waterfront Canal. And there are snacks, so what are you waiting for?

Liquid Adventures

ATTENTION ALL ADRENALINE JUNKIES: This is the perfect way to celebrate South Africa! Dominate those rapids and tick the Umkomaas river off your places to see. Because it’s a half day offer, you can make a whole weekend of it!

This is only a taste of the many offers the ENTERTAINER has available, so go check them all out! What are you getting up to this weekend? Sound off in the comments below, and be safe!
