Random Acts of Kindness Day is as its name suggests: really random. But we absolutely love it, because what is life without the lady that tells you she loves your dress, the man that pays for your toll ahead of you in the queue, and the barista at Starbucks that writes ‘have a good day’ on your coffee cup(?)? Really, life is nothing without these moments. But yet, we so often forget to be the giver of them.

Why do we wait for people to die before we tell them how much we love them? A simple poem or letter expressing how much we care about someone has the potential to save an entire relationship (yup, you can Google it if you don’t believe us). And all you need to do is whip out a piece of paper, grab a pen and let your loved one know just how much they mean to you. Pop the note in their lunchbox or next to their bed and let them read it in their own time. Voila! In under 5 minutes, you’ve made someone’s day ❤
Is your job taking out the trash, washing the dishes, and putting the kids down? Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. You’re awesome (seriously). But why not take a little extra time off work today and do all the chores. Yes, like, get home a little earlier, bath the kiddos, cook the dins, and give the house a quick spring clean (plus all of your usual chores). While it might be the most painful thing you’ve done all year, it will mean more than you could ever imagine to your SO, roommate, or whoever you live with.
Lazy peeps, this one takes less than 5 minutes to do, yet the results are everlasting. All you need is a bathtub, some candles, some freshly picked flowers or herbs, and some beautiful music. When your partner gets home from work, pop the TV on for the kids (just this once) and let them soak in the tub and get some much-needed alone time. A relaxed wife (or hubby) = happy life. Trust us.
Whether it’s with your kids, friends, or partner, quality time is the best act of kindness you can give. And by quality time we mean no technology, no distractions, just you and them. Listening. Talking. Engaging. And then remember what they said, ask them about it the next time you see them. Watch as your relationships blossom.
She loves a chick-flick, he loves an action so they both settle on a historical drama because they can both just hate it together. Sound familiar? A compromise is never a win, so hand her the remote and say that you really feel like watching something that she loves. Then, enjoy it (i.e. don’t roll your eyes or laugh during the cheesy kissing scenes). For even better results, talk about it afterwards. We can almost guarantee that the next movie night she’ll repay the favour. You’re welcome.
