Few things are as wonderful as quality time with your girls. But it doesn’t always have to be that coffee-on-the-couch-catch-up… there are loads of ways to spend time with your besties whilst exploring the city and trying new things. So, are you ready for a proper Durban girls day out?
Call us typical, but every Durban girls day out needs to start with a spa sesh. Pamper and primp to your heart’s content at La Belle Vie – the skin and body pros are there to spoil you. Go with whatever you and your girls are feeling. Think manis, pedis, spray tans, facials and – my absolute favourite – a Swedish massage (hard pressure, am I right?). La Belle Vie packages come with champagne too, which earns them extra points in my books.
Situated in Durban’s gorgeous and contemporary Freedom Café, the Chocolate and Cheesecake Bar will delight those of you with sweet teeth. Here, you can get your hands on signature cheesecakes, cupcakes, macaroons and real Belgian chocolate dipping. If you’re looking for a guilt-free strategy, take a page out of my book and start off with one of their healthy smoothies; once you’ve taken in an acceptable dose of nutrients you’re free to wolf down the good stuff. It’s called balance, ladies.
Now that you’re all primped out from your spa session, break some stereotypes and get that mind moving! I, for one, had a blast at Durban’s Brainstorm Escape Rooms – a little cognitive challenge is excellent before you reward yourself with cocktails. (Again, it’s all about balance, ladies). This ultra-cool group activity sees you and your peeps trapped in a room together, with 60 minutes to decipher riddles, clues and puzzles that will solve the mystery and help you escape. Girls, if any of you has a competitive beast lurking inside you, be warned – it’s likely to surface.
That’s right, girls. Shopping, eating and finery in one location – situated at Durban’s newest upmarket establishment, The Pearls. The concept is genius when it comes to “eating and meeting” – you get to window shop through elegant boutique wear while sampling the chef’s latest creations. The rocky road chocolate brownies at D.L. Boutique & Cafe are highly recommended.
Who says naughty nights are for bachelorettes only? Get wild with your women at Durban’s Nooky Parties. Strictly ladies only, you and the girls can explore a bunch of sexy stuff in the comfort of your own home – tons of laughs guaranteed! Think burlesque dance lessons, plenty of toys and even, gulp, exotic male dancers (I mean, we’re living in the 21st century after all). A Durban girls day out (or in, I suppose) doesn’t get much naughtier than this!
