How exciting is it that the Lions are in the Super Rugby final?! What’s even more exciting is that Emirates Airline Park is sold out – which means we have 62 000 people backing our boys on Saturday! It also means that 62 000 lucky people will be in the area and celebrating when the Lions win (hehe). So, whether you’re planning a pre-game braai with mates and celebrating after, or pre-gaming with food at a restaurant with a few drinks, we’ve rounded up a few awesome things to do on this momentous rugby weekend, some of which are near the stadium, so you don’t have to stray too far ?
There’s nothing better than a weekend full of pizza, beer, and rugby! So say yes to carbs, and yes to delicious pizzas. They’re dotted all around Johannesburg, so you have plenty of options to choose from ? P.S. You HAVE to try The James Brown – it’s a personal fave.
If you feel like mixing it up for lunch, then Little Addis Cafe is definitely the way to go. Their food is packed full of Ethiopian flavour and they’re close to the stadium, so you can grab an awesome parking spot pretty early and fill up on food before the big game!
This place is really one of my personal faves. They have the yummiest cocktails and food, so grab a bite to eat for lunch before the game, or stop by for dinner. They have a location in Braamfontein, so they’re not too far from Emirates Airline Park.
Crafters Bar is everything you want in a drinks place and MORE. So when the Lions win (I’m clearly holding thumbs and toes), you should definitely check them out because they have the best range of cocktails and shooters. Just remember to use Uber or assign a designated driver if you’re planning on drinking ?
This vibey bistro with funky decor is situated very close to the stadium and will definitely be buzzing after the game. Feel the energy and join the fun while enjoying a drink (or two… or three) at their massive bar. And if cocktails aren’t your thing, check out these beer spots.
The Republic of 94 is one of the biggest venues in Braamfontein, has a 20 metre long bar (yes, you read that correctly), VIP bottle service, and a vibe that can’t be matched anywhere else, so it’s the perfect place to celebrate a victory!
If you’re still feeling pumped and ready to ride that adrenaline rush after Saturday, then check out F1 Indoor Karting. Take a few laps around the track and end the weekend on a high note.
And if you want to take it easy after such a jam-packed Saturday, why not take the day to relax and treat yourself to a back, neck and should massage so you’re relaxed and ready to take on the week.
Because this is going to be such a legendary weekend, you’ll definitely want to make the most of it by doing as much as you can around Jozi. Let me know what you have planned this weekend and how you’ll be celebrating a possible Lions victory, because I’d love to hear what you’re getting up to ? GO LIONS!
