These Matcha Flapjacks Are Better Than Your Mom’s

Yes, we know. Your mom makes the best flapjacks in the world. Or does she? We headed to Scheckter’s Raw to try out their organic matcha flapjacks and we’ll never be the same again.

What’s in them:

Organic matcha, vanilla, organic raw honey, organic hempseed, cinnamon, and a blend of flour (brown rice, chickpea, almond and flaxseed). This makes up the batter, which is swirled onto a hot griddle, and the chef then tosses the flapjacks until toasty.

The toppings:

A generous dash of whipped cream (made from coconut milk, obvs), fresh strawberries, banana and a drizzle of honey. If you’d like to go full vegan, the honey is easily substituted for organic agave nectar.

We invited Dominique Vieira, the beautiful yogi behind health blog My Bread And Almond Butter, to do the taste-test. (Tough life, eh?). Dom is gluten intolerant and eats according to a plant-based, vegetarian diet, but still follows a treat yo’self philosophy. Bonus points if the treat is packed with goodness.

Here’s what she had to say about the Scheckter’s Raw matcha flapjacks:

“These are the perfect treat. They’re super healthy (matcha is a concentrated form of green tea powder), dairy-free, refined-sugar-free and packed full of antioxidants and all the good things. The matcha isn’t at all overwhelming and because they taste so good, you forget that you’re being healthy in the first place.”
