If you’ve ever wondered what Captain Jack Sparrow eats for breakfast, well… wonder no more. Tucked away in the leafy suburb of Claremont, The Larder is a hidden gem with cosy charm, the “world’s best cinnamon buns” and a legendary breakfast menu.
Sonja Edridge is the cafe’s passionate owner, and she named “The Johnny Depp” brekkie after the man she used to cook it for. It’s a unique twist on a classic Eggs Benedict, and take it from me – it’s INCREDIBLE. I mean, just look at that hollandaise.
Besides being an ex-private-chef to the stars, Sonja has worked as a food stylist and recipe developer across the UK. But her heart lies in cooking heartfelt soul food right here in Cape Town, which I’m not complaining about. Plus, in addition to the fantastic breakfast menu, Sonja’s jams and preserves are the stuff dreams are made of. (Carrot and vanilla marmalade, get in mah belly!).
So, if you find yourself in the Southern Suburbs with a craving for some proper food – pull in at The Larder. Sonja has recently started opening the cafe on select evenings for supper club dinners too. Plus, there’s a Diep River branch, so you can get your fix (and maybe a 2-for-1 coffee) across the city.
You can thank me for this information in cinnamon buns.
