Have you ever looked at a whole chilli pepper and thought, “Hmm, that would be great in my G&T”? Well, if you haven’t, then this post is about to change your life. And if you have, then may this act as a little reminder as World Gin Day approaches (yes, there is a whole day dedicated to gin, and yes, it is amazing). There are so many weird and wonderful gin garnishes out there, it’s almost daunting to decide where to start. But don’t worry, the Green Craft Bar in Modderfontein has offered to share their secrets, and reveal some of their garnish recommendations that’ll take your G&T to the next level.
If you’re a no muss, no fuss kinda person, then you probably don’t want to go too crazy with your gin garnishes. And that’s totally OK. You can never really go wrong with a wedge of lemon (or lime). Non-believers can sip it.
Yeah, this is where the whole chilli comes in. Adding a pinch of ground sea salt masks the bitterness, while the perforated chilli and peppercorns add a little heat. Just remember to add whole peppercorns, otherwise they’ll discolour your G&T.
A contemporary classic – this citrus addition will add a semi-sweet, yet somewhat bitter flavour. Combine it with pink tonic, and you’ve got the perfect ‘gram to post on World Gin Day. Plus, this particular combo’s named after Ruby, the Green Craft Bar‘s super cute shop pup, so you kinda have to try it.
Gin’s so versatile, and there are so many possible combinations of flavours and garnishes out there in the world. Don’t be afraid to play around and try them all.
Now that you’ve got your gin, tonic, and you’ve settled on one of the above gin garnishes, let’s give three cheers for gin, for the day dedicated to its deliciousness, and for the fact that you can get 2-for-1 G&Ts if you use the ENTERTAINER. Cheers!
